This page lists the changes made in Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection compared to the original Nintendo DS games.
Multi-game Changes
- All event-only Brother Band and Battle Cards are obtainable as “Bonus Cards”. Also, peripheral content: Wave Scanner (partially), Wave Command Card, Noise Mod Gear and Secret Satellite Server, are implemented in-game.
- Non-English languages from the European Nintendo DS games are not implemented. However, the European English script is used for Mega Man Star Force 1.
- Mega Man Battle Network Double Slot features are implemented and can be turned on in the options.
- The intro cutscenes before the title screen have been reworked for a single screen.
- 3D battles are rendered at a high resolution.
- All UI is remade in high definition.
- All text involving button inputs have been modified to use the system's buttons.
- There is now an option to have Battle Cards use their original high resolution artwork instead of their DS pixel artwork. It is possible to switch to the pixel art versions as well.
- There is now an option to have mugshots use traditionally drawn artwork instead of their DS pixel artwork. It is possible to switch to the pixel art versions as well.
- Many of these artworks are taken or based on the original concept art before being turned to pixel art (they can be seen in the Mega Man Star Force Official Complete Works). Since the art is slightly altered in the pixel art, they are not a direct match (e.g. SF1-2 Mega Man’s mugshot having more shading in the pixel art than the traditionally drawn artwork).
- An Auto-Save feature has been added. Players can now choose to load the Auto Save or Manual save when booting the game.
- Players can now store up to 100 Brothers, which then can be placed within the game at any time (which still has a maximum of 6 at a time).
- The Profile’s Handle no longer uses manual input and instead uses the system’s profile name.
- Some semi-transparency effects (such as Barrier) are displayed different from the DS version. These now use an animating dithering effect instead of solid semi-transparency.
Gameplay Changes
- The EM Wave Change animation can now be skipped with the Start button.
- Free Camera has been added to the field screen. This allows you to freely view the whole map of the current area.
- Cipher Mail and Cipher Codes can now be inputted manually or automatically filled in, removing the need of looking them up.
- In SF1 and SF2, you can no longer freely draw a Face Pic for your profile. Instead, you can choose from any of the character portraits that appear across all three games. This includes some portraits that are unused in the actual games.
- In SF3, you can no longer freely change the Team Icon and can only select from the in-game ones.
- The flash in the Brother Card roulette after rolling has been removed and now just instantly cuts to the final card.
- Connectivity related:
- The online menu is now a new menu outside of the game and entering Network will exit you out of the current game.
- You can no longer send Mail to Real Brothers.
- You can now trade Battle Cards online. In the DS versions, trading Battle Cards is local only.
- Real Brother Band options have been truncated:
- Brother Band must be created at the same time with the other player and only after battling or trading. In the DS version, local Brother Band requires a battle first and online Brother Bands only require entering their Friend Code and no battle.
- There is no Data Update option, and now must connect with the Brother at the same time to update for online brothers. It will update on the 100 Brothers list, then they must be put into the Brother slot to complete updating them. In the DS version, online Data Update stores the updated player data on a server and the Brothers can update them at any time even when other players aren’t online.
- In SF2, a Brother’s Legend Card is no longer sent to the other player upon Brothering or Data Update.
- VS Match options have been truncated:
- Battles start instantly instead of going to a lobby for both players. SF3’s premade quotes exchange is not present.
- There is no triple battle option.
- There is no option for number of turns.
- There is no marker or filter for players with Wave Command Cards or Noise Mod Gear.
- There is no toggle to disable Legend Cards.
- Since you can now instantly Brother all players you encounter: in SF3, Opponent Noise Key Items cannot be obtained.
- A “Collection Credits” will unlock after beating the story of all 3 games.

- (EN) In SF3, the Finalization sound is now “Meteor Server Access” instead of the DS’s “Star Force Server Access”.
- In SF2 and SF3, when entering a battle, the field music now stops after the battle transition rather than before it.
- In SF3, the music now resets to the start of the song after battle instead of resuming from where it left off.

- The player character can no longer be renamed and is known only as Geo Stelar throughout.
- Wave Scanner’s Scanner Data content has been implemented, but the ability to scan Battle Cards and boost them in battle is not included.
