Mega Man Battle Network 5 saw the first time players are able to play as other Navis using the traditional Battle Network battle system. It is also the first game in the series to see a port release on the Nintendo DS with modified and improved features from its Gameboy Advance version.

- Early purchase of Team of Blues came with a DarkSword Progress BattleChip.
- Team of Colonel came with an additional gift depending on the retailer it was purchased from. Wristband KnightMan ver. (e-Capcom), Gospel Modification card (Ito-Yokado), Serenade Modification card (Toys 'R' Us).
- Early purchase of Twin Leaders came with a Rockman Sword stylus and LCD cleaner.
- Rockman EXE 5 Team of Colonel - Movie Edition was a special release sold in theaters co-current with the Rockman EXE movie and came with a mini 2005 calendar and a Forte XX Modification card. Certain theaters also included a DarkThunder Progress BattleChip.
