Virtual Console Differences in Mega Man Battle Network
From The Rockman EXE Zone Wiki
The Mega Man Battle Network series was digitally re-released on the Wii U through its Virtual Console service. There are a number of changes to the games, mainly to cover the lack of connectivity with other players and additional accessories.
- The Virtual Console release are emulation of each region's latest revision of the games, with some modifications.
General Changes
- All Network features do not work, including Crossover Battle. For most of the games, the Network menu will give certain items that originally need other players to unlock.
- Accessory features such as Patch Cards via Card e-Reader and Battle Chip Gate are inaccessible, but few items received from them are distributed.
- A number of palettes in all the games have been revised in order to improve the contrast and make them easier on the eyes, or to remove effects that could be seizure inducing. As such, certain overly bright palettes have been dimmed down, and certain flickering sprites have been slowed down.
- For the first 3 games, Japanese press release and info site dropped the "Battle Network" subtitle from the titles.
Mega Man Battle Network 1
- This game does not support the Network unlocks from the later titles so the Bass BattleChip is not given.
Mega Man Battle Network 2
- EU version is actually the NA version so there's no Ubi Soft screen on startup.
- Network Menu now lets you obtain one copy each of BattleChips #251-260 (the multiplayer only reward chips) in * code, GateSP in G code, and the Gospel chips in X code.
- Due to them distributing the multiplayer chips, Hard Mode can be unlocked.
Mega Man Battle Network 3
- Network Menu now lets you obtain one copy each of respective version-exclusive Navi chips (BowlMan B / MistMan M), and their V2 to V4s, Punk P, version-exclusive multiplayer chips (Balance Y / DeltaRay Z), and BassGS X.
- Due to them distributing the multiplayer chips, Omega bosses are fightable and remaining 2 Stars are obtainable.
Mega Man Battle Network 4
- Network Menu now lets you obtain one copy each of all secret chips except for GunSolEX. GrandPrixPower and Duo event chips are nowhere to be seen.
- BassXX is fightable in-game without the need of Patch Cards. If you press Left, L, and Start on the title screen, he replaces Bass Omega in Black Earth 2.
- Since multiplayer content is totally inaccessible: Free Tournament, opposite version Navis in tournaments, and boosted RedSun / BlueMoon GigaChips are inaccessible as a result.
Mega Man Battle Network 5
- Network Menu now lets you obtain one copy each of all secret chips including Otenko and GunDelEX. LeadersRaid and ChaosLord event chips are nowhere to be seen.
- BassCross MegaMan Patch Card is distributed alongside the chips. Although the form is installed, the MB count is still 0/80 and it cannot be deleted. As a result, the Custom stats menu screen, Bass side quest, and BassXX are available.
- A frame blending effect is applied in ACDC Town. Likely to mitigate the heavy flickering from the helicopter in the final chapter (originally done to simulate transparency).
- In the Japanese version, the game-breaking Liberation Warp glitch is fixed.
Mega Man Battle Network 6
- (NA)(EU) Network Menu now lets you obtain one copy each of all secret chips (opposite version Navi chips).
- (JP) Network Menu now lets you obtain one copy each of all secret chips. including Otenko and GunDelEX. DoubleBeast, Gregar, and Falzar event chips are nowhere to be seen.
- (JP) Card e-Reader exclusive Request BBS quests are distributed alongside the chips. As a result, ProtoManFZ can be fought in the Japanese version.
- The soft-locking SlipRunner glitch has been fixed.
Rockman EXE 4.5 Real Operation
- The 8 Battle Chip Gate exclusive Navis (StarMan, NapalmMan, IceMan, ElecMan, PlantMan, KnightMan, ShadowMan, and Bass) can be unlocked by pressing L and R in the Navi Select menu.
- When the date changes while playing, Heart/Star Data respawns (in any of its potential locations). On GBA, it despawns until you jack out.
Mega Man Battle Chip Challenge
- No changes, but since it's just code input, technically this game still has cross compatibility with N1 Battle and other Battle Chip Challenge games.
Notes
- The MMBN4 WoodMan scenario bug that appears only on the original Nintendo DS is not present.
- Numerous Navi summon chips in MMBN4 and EXE4.5 that temporarily freezes the game for a second when they are used that appear only on the original Nintendo DS are fixed within the game itself.
- If MMBN4 VC has the Patch Cards screen unlocked through other means, it reveals that Title Screen button input fills in the menu with a dummy Patch Card slot. This meets the condition to unlock BassXX.
- Since the Wireless Adapter and Progress Chip Gate can't be used with MMBN5, there is no way to speed up the waiting of PRESS START on the title screen.
- Obtaining the Bass Cross MegaMan Card also unlocks the Patch Card menu, which enables you to see MegaMan’s overall stats including any NaviCust bugs he has.
- Since the Japanese version of MMBN6 gives the Card e-Reader quests without restrictions, it's easier to run into the Anubis soft-lock.
