Connectivity in Mega Man Battle Network 3

These are the features that require connectivity in Mega Man Battle Network 3.

Network Menu

  • NetBattle: In this game, the battlefield sets the players will fight in can be picked.
    • Lightweight: Battlefields that don't contains any panel types but does contains Rock Cubes.
    • Midweight: Battlefields that contains various panel types, as well as Rock Cubes and boulders.
    • Heavyweight: Battlefields that contains more tricky obstacles; Fan, Flags, and spawning Guardians.
    • Tri-Battle: Have up to three battles, the player who wins 2/3 first wins the match. Pulls battlefield sets from all three weight ranks.
      • Practice: Have 1 battle against another player. Does not count towards Win/Lose record.
      • Real: Have 1 battle against another player. The losing player will forfeit a chip in their Pack to their opponent. Will count towards Win/Lose record. This option cannot be selected if there are no non-Giga Class Chips in the Pack.
      • Tournament: A special mode where the game will keep track how many victories in a row a player will have. After having 1 battle against another player, the losing player will be able to pass the Link Cable to another player and challenge the winning player. MegaMan will keep track how many victories the winning player has had so far. Nothing occurs if the 69 battles goal is reached, it's merely flavor text.
  • See Library: If the opposite player has chips in the Library that the player doesn't, the missing chips will be filled out with names but no image or description.
  • Trade Chips: Trade BattleChip between players.
  • Trade prgrm: Trade Navi Customizer Parts between players.

Real Battle Reward

In MMBN3, if you're NetBattling on Midweight, Heavyweight or Tri-Battle level and playing in Real mode, when the Results screen pops up, there is a 1-in-32 chance to get a special reward chip. This only happens if the winning player has not yet received Balance/DeltaRay. When this happens, the losing player does not lose one of their own chips.

When choosing the reward chip, the game will make a list of every Standard chip that neither you nor the other player has yet. However, all the Virus Breeder chips are excluded from this list, so you can't get them this way.

If this list of potential chips is empty, then the winning player will receive Balance or DeltaRay depending on their version. In other words, if the combined Standard Library of both players are complete. Otherwise, the game selects a chip rarity based on your Busting Level:

Next, the game will check if there are any chips in the list of potential chips that match the selected rarity. If there are no chips found, then the game will decrease rarity by 1 and check again, until a chip is found. If there are still no chips found at this point, then the game will instead increase the rarity by 1 and check again until a chip is found.

Finally, the game will choose one of the available codes of that chip at random, except for * code, unless * code is the only code that chip can have. Each code has an equal chance to be chosen.

There are a total of 4 fields in Lightweight.

There are a total of 32 fields in Midweight.

There are a total of 17 fields in Heavyweight.

Trivia

  • Any region Mega Man Battle Network 3 can link up with each other (eg. Japanese can connect with a North American copy). However, since the English version has received bug fixes, battles are susceptible to be desynchronized on both players’ side.
