Mega Man Battle Network 4 began the new standard for Battle Network games moving forward, with an emphasis on player versus player and extra features unlocked with peripherals.
The Japanese version saw multiple release variations for this game:
- First prints of Rockman EXE 4 came with a Meteor Red Sun and Blue Moon Ray Advanced Battle Chip based on the game purchased.
- Early purchase of Rockman EXE 4 came with a Character Ruler based on their respective version.
- Rockman EXE 4 Tournament Red Sun Axess Set SP Pack Bundle and ''Rockman EXE 4 Tournament Blue Moon Axess Set SP Pack Bundle were available for purchase at Toys 'R' Us for a limited time and comes with their respective game, a special edition Rockman Blue Gameboy Advance SP, and some stickers.
- Rockman EXE 4 Double Pack contains both games at a lower price and comes with a Grand Prix Power Rare Chip Data Distribution card.
