Rockman Star Colosseum (ロックマンスターコロシアム) ((TL) Mega Man Star Colosseum), or Rock★Colo (ロク★コロ) ((TL) Star★Colo) for short, is a mini-game mode for Rockman EXE Operate Shooting Star. It takes place entirely on the field screen.

  • Play With Friends can only be done via DS Download Play and 1 OSS game card, it can support 2 to 6 players. The host must send the data from their OSS game card via Wireless Communication. Player names shown will be based on the system's set name.
  • Play Solo will only allow the VS Bass mode of the game.
  • Check Points will check the number of points won in RockColo. It is to be used at the shop in Lan's PC. The more players playing, the more points will be rewarded.

There are multiple stages that can be chosen, each with their own shapes and gimmicks:

  • Random: Picks a random stage from the below choices.
  • Standard
  • Maze
  • Diamond
  • Zoom Zoom ((TL) Zip & Zoom)
  • Three Islands
  • ACDC Town

Playable Characters

There are 3 selectable characters and 1 unlockable character:

  • Battle Network MegaMan ((TL) MegaMan (BN))
  • ProtoMan
  • Star Force MegaMan ((TL) MegaMan (SF))
  • Bass: Unlocked after the game card has played 50 multiplayer matches. Bass can only be picked in Lone Battle and is available for all players. His attack can destroy ice in only one hit.

Standard RockColo

Applies to Practice Battle, Lone Battle, Team Battle, and is multiplayer only. The goal is to obtain as many stars before the time is up, this can be done by gathering them on the field or steal them from other rival players. Using items that spawn on the field is integral to victory.

Before the battle, each player must pick an element to be equipped with: Rock, Paper, or Scissors. When attacking another player; a player equipped with an RPS element that beats a rival's will steal points from them. Otherwise, attacking a rival does nothing. The equipped element can also be changed and boostedfrom a field item.

If a player is struck by a bomb, they will be fallen and lose stars and be teleported for a respawn point. In their fall, they will also leave a Red Star (3) in their place.

Certain mechanics will take place depending on how well a player is doing:

  • The 1st place player will have their map covered up with big letters, making them unable to see their map.
  • If a player loses all their stars and respawn, they will temporarily be boosted: They will have all 3 RPS elements at once, increased attack power, increase movement speed, and be invincible. They are unaffected by rival normal attacks but will still be affected by terrain effects and bombs.

If more than a minute has passed, there is a chance Bass will appear. Bass will target a player and chase them down, if caught they will lose all their stars. He will disappear after some time or if he gets bombed.

VS Bass

For single player and multiplayer. The goal is to attack Bass using bombs and reduce his HP to zero within 5 minutes. Using items that spawn on the field is integral to victory. Depending on how fast Bass is beaten, extra points will be rewarded. Bass' HP will depend on your circumstance. In multiplayer, it's even possible to face 2 Bass.

# of players HP # of Bass
1P 4000 HP 1
2P 5000 HP 1
3P 6000 HP 1
4P 7000 HP 1
5P 4000 HP 2
6P 5000 HP 2

A bit after the start of the match, Bass will target a player and chase them. If he makes contact with a player, they are fallen. In multiplayer, he will be able to change targets.

  • In single player, if the player falls 2 times, the match is over.
  • In multiplayer, a fallen player will be marked with HELP and can be revived indefinitely by coming in contact with another player. Fallen players will be able to Bass on their map. If all players are fallen at the same time, the match is over.

Notes about Bass:

  • If all players are invisible, Bass will have no target and more-or-less stand in place.
  • Bass will slow down over terrain with no ground.
  • Bass will speed up as his HP decreases.

If you lose to Bass or timed out, you will get a 1 point consolation prize regardless of progress.

If you beat Bass, you will get points according to your circumstance.

Field System

Map Mechanics

These are terrain occurrences that can be found on the map.

Item Effect
Disappearing Floor If a player is standing on the tile when it disappears, they will fall. In RockColo, the player's stars be cut in 1/2.
Orange Warp Hole Entering a warp hole will do the following effects: Teleport player to another spot, RPS element will change, be in Cloaker for a short period, and any held items or power-up will be removed.

Items

Once picking up most items, they will be stored and can be activated with the B Button. In VS Bass, only Speed Up, Cloaker, and Bomb will appear.

Item Effect
Star Counts as 1 star.
Red Star (3) Counts as 3 stars.
Red Star (10) Counts as 10 stars. These Red Stars can be found within ice, which will require multiple attacks from players to break. Playable Bass however, can clear it in one shot.
Rock, Paper, Scissors Icon Become the shown element on the icon. In Team Battle, the same element twice will power up the player, which will allow them to destroy ice faster and steal more points when attacking a rival.
Pit Fall Sets up a hidden pit fall. Anyone who walks over it will fall in it and get stuck, even the player who set it up. Those stuck can have their points stolen by attacks regardless of their RPS element.
  • Those stuck in a pit fall can shorten their time by mashing A Button. While in the pit fall, bomb explosions will be avoided.
Speed Up (Blue) Temporarily move faster.
Speed Up (Red) Temporarily move even faster than Speed Up (Blue) and more rare than it.
Cloaker Temporarily turn invisible, but will be visible when attacking. In VS Bass, you will not be targeted by Bass.
Bomb Places a bomb that will explode after a while and take out whoever gets caught in the explosion. It has no friendly fire and will also take out its user. Getting hit by one will take away 1/3 of the player's stars.
Star Bomb When picking up a normal Star, there's a chance for it to be Star Bomb and attach itself to who picked it up. A timer counting down from 20 will show on it. If it hits 0, it will take out the holder and take all their stars. If anyone else gets caught in its explosion, it will take 1/2 their stars.
  • The Star Bomb acts like "hot potato", if its holder touches a rival, it will pass the bomb to them. At the moment of passing, its new holder temporarily can't move.
Club Strong Super rare item. A 15 second timer will start and orange warp holes will appear throughout the stage. All rivals that don't escape to a warp hole in time will be hammered by Club Strong and their stars will be stolen by its user.

In-game tips

Tips for RockColo mode:

  • If a rival is stuck in a PitFall, stars can be stolen regardless of element.
  • If a rival is caught in a bomb explosion, they'll always drop a red star.
  • If you have less stars than your rivals, your single attack will steal more stars.
  • If you're in 1st place, the map will be covered up and harder to see.
  • Take care of your thumbs. Pressing the buttons harder won't help you run faster.
  • If you ever hit 0 stars, you'll get a power up that be able to steal stars regardless of a rival's element.
  • Getting another of the same equipped element will boost you and increase how many stars you can steal.
  • You can also pick up items by attacking them.
  • Cloaker will make you invisible, but you will be visible to rivals when you're attacking.
  • PitFalls can be placed on disappearing paths.
  • After setting a bomb, run or you'll get caught in it.
  • When a Star Bomb explodes, those who fell into a Pit Fall can avoid it.
  • Using an orange warp hole is a good way to escape being chased. However, you'll lose any items you're holding and any items effects.
  • Just being near a rival with a Star Bomb will get you caught in its explosion.
  • Picking up an item will overwrite the one you're already holding.
  • Make sure to use items you picked up using the B Button.
  • Sonia: Try to store a rock-paper-scissor element different from your own.
  • Luna: Rare items (such as red stars, SpeedUp, Cloaker) appear more often on small isolated islands.
  • Solo: Against a rival equipped with all rock-paper-scissor elements, PitFall and bombs will still be effective.
  • Pat: Stacking up the same element will power it up. In this state, ice will be destroyed faster.
  • Ms. Mari: You can set up another Pit Fall while a rival is still stuck in a Pit Fall, making it possible to keep stealing stars.
  • Chaud: Bass can be unlocked and can destroy ice in one hit.
  • Mayl: Keep working hard!

Tips for VS Bass:

  • Bass moves slower over terrain with no paths.
  • Using Cloaker will make Bass unable to target you. You can even overlap with Bass in his period.
  • The lower Bass's HP is, the faster he'll move.
  • The closer Bass to the center of a bomb explosion, the more damage he'll take.
  • Setting and blowing up multiple bombs at the same time will deal combo damage on Bass and do more damage.
  • In multiplayer, fallen players will be able to see Bass's location on the bottom screen map.
  • At the start of the round, Bass will always appear in the center of the map.
  • Communicating with friends is crucial for cases such as setting up bombs.
  • Defeating Bass within 1 minute will reward 50 points as a bonus.

Notes

  • After ending the game, the Download Play side will give the title screen command input for unlocking GutsMan *.
  • In the internal text files, it suggests that Rockman Star Colosseum was also intended to be a DSiWare game and supported the DSi's memory system. The points obtained in it could have also been transferred to a Rockman EXE Operate Shooting Star game card. In the final game, there is no additional DSi support.
