These are the features that require connectivity in Mega Man Battle Network 1.

  • (LC) In the Legacy Collection, players cannot enter Network if they have more than 1 Bass chip. Although, it's possible to get more copies legitimately via the Chip Trader after obtaining a single legit copy.

MAX Mode

This feature is intended to prevent battles from going into an indefinite length after 15 turns.

After closing the 16th turn's Custom Screen, MAX Mode will occur. MegaMan's stats will be boosted to quicken the battle's conclusion: MegaMan does not flinch from attacks and his Buster attack becomes 6.

Final Match

The Final Match mechanic replaces BN1's MAX Mode mechanic, a reworked system with the same intention to prevent battles from going into an indefinite length.

Starting a Network Duel in OSS will display how many turns are left in the battle (starting from 15 turns). If there are no more turns, when the Custom Screen is opened, Final Match occurs instead.

The battle scenario will immediately become a sudden-death match that will determine the winner:

  • Both players' HP becomes 400.
  • The Custom Gauge is no longer active.
  • Chip selection is erased, the only weapon is the Buster.
  • All obstacles on the field are destroyed.
  • MegaMan does not flinch from attacks and his Buster attack becomes 6. Any defense he has are removed (such as LifeAura).
  • Battle cannot be paused.
