These are the Official Capcom Tournament Rules for the Mega Man Star Force series.

Mega Man Star Force 1

SSR1 was played at Wavemasters 2007 tournaments[1]. There are 3 classes: Wavemaster, Galaxy Open, and Satellite Beginners.

Wavemaster Class

These are the rules only for Wavemaster Class: [2]

  • Only for 1st to 6th grade Elementary school students.
  • Forbidden to use data generated by Takara's Wave Scanner.

Galaxy Open Class

These are the rules only for Galaxy Class: [3]

  • No age limit.
  • Data raised in Takara's Wave Scanner can be entered. However, it is forbidden to use "Wave Battle Card" from attaching the Wave Scanner. To battle using Wave Scanner data, please turn on Scanner Data on the Mega screen.
    • If Wave Scanner Data is entered, it cannot be turned off and on in the middle of the competition.

Joint Rules

These are rules that apply for Wavemaster and Galaxy Open Class:

  • Brother Force event distribution data is allowed.
  • Please do battles in "Practice, 1 round".
  • Battles will be done through a special DS system prepared by the Wavemaster Secretariat.
  • Please do not touch the equipment other than the DS itself.
  • Before the battle, please hand over the software to the judge, as per their instructions.
  • Forbidden to pause, soft reset, or turning off the power before the Result screen is displayed for the match.
  • Forbidden to use Best Combo or Legend Force. If used, the battle will be counted as a loss.
    • Please watch out when selecting Brother Force on the Custom Screen and picking "Yes" for "Call a Bro. and use a B.Combo?"
  • If there is a Battle Card obtained through illegal data modification, there will be a complete disqualification even if they are not used.

Satellite Beginners Class

These are the rules for Satellite Beginners Class: [4]

  • Beginners only for 1st to 6th grade Elementary school students.
  • Competitors of Wavemaster Class and Galaxy Open Class cannot enter.
  • Forbidden to use own Mega Man Star Force software progress.
  • Can enter using software prepared by the Secretariat, but cannot select the version.
  • Battles will be done through a special DS system prepared the Wavemaster Secretariat.
  • Please do not touch the equipment other than the DS itself.
  • Forbidden to pause, soft reset, or turning off the power before the Result screen is displayed for the match.
  • Winning this tournament will not qualify for the national tournament.

Mega Man Star Force 2

SSR2 was played at Wavemasters 2008[5] and Rockman Summer Festival 2008 tournaments. There are 3 classes: Junior, Senior, and Open.

Junior/Senior Class

These are the rules only for Junior[6] and Senior[7] Classes:

  • Junior: Only for 1st to 4th grade Elementary school students.
  • Senior: Only for 5th grade Elementary to 3rd grade Junior High students.
  • Forbidden to use data raised in Takara Tomy's Star Carrier.
  • Forbidden to use inputted Blank Cards using Takara Tomy's Wave Command Cards.
  • Use of Wave Command Cards via Brothers' Favorites is allowed. With the exception of Satellite Admin cards, such as LeoKingdomGX, which upon use will consider the match as a loss.

Open Class

These are the rules only for Open Class: [8]

  • No age limit.
  • Data raised using Takara Tomy's Star Carrier can be entered.
  • Takara Tomy's Wave Command Cards are allowed, but Satellite Admin cards, such as LeoKingdomGX, are forbidden.
  • If there is a Admin card in the folder, there will be disqualification.
  • If an Admin card is used from Brother's Favorite, the match will be counted as a loss.
  • If trained Mega Man data or programs are obtained via illegal data modifications, there will be a complete disqualification even if they are not used.
  • Forbidden to use trained Mega Man data and programs that were modified through machines others than Takara Tomy's Star Carrier.

Joint Rules

These are rules that apply for all Classes:

  • There will be disqualification if the card distributed during registration is traded with someone else's card, or if there is double registration.
  • During entry, select "10 Turns" on the number of turns screen before starting the battle.
  • All Abilities and Mega Weapons available in-game and via Cipher Mail are allowed.
  • Forbidden to start battles with the Tribe King form.
  • Brother Cards and Battle Cards from event distribution data is allowed.
  • Please do battles with "Practice, 1 Round".
  • Players who have won once cannot participate in the same class.
  • Battles will be done through a special DS system prepared by the Wavemaster Secretariat.
  • Please do not touch the equipment other than the DS itself.
  • Before the battle, please hand over the software to the judge, as per their instructions.
  • Forbidden to pause, soft reset, or turning off the power before the Result screen is displayed for the match. Also, forbidden to change versions and edit the folder during entry.
  • Forbidden to use Legend Cards. If used, the battle will be counted as a loss.
  • If there is a Battle Card obtained through illegal data modification, there will be a complete disqualification even if they are not used.
  • If it is discovered that the software has been modified by illegals methods, it will also result in a disqualification.

Mega Man Star Force 3

SSR3 was played at Wavemasters 2009 tournaments[9]. There are 3 classes: Junior, Senior, OFF. As well an extra format: Survival Match.

Junior/Senior Class

These are the rules only for Junior[10] and Senior[11] Classes:

  • Junior: Only for 1st to 4th grade Elementary school students.
  • Senior: Only for 5th grade Elementary to 3rd grade Junior High students.
  • Mega Man boosted with the advanced cards, Noise Mod Gear, is allowed.
  • Allowed Noise Mod Gear includes all types from the first set, Progress Stage, and the second set, Diabolos Stage. Noise Mod Gear distributed and posted at events and strategy guides are also allowed.
  • MegaMan boosted with the advanced book, Secret Satellite Server, is allowed.
  • Players who once won other tournaments in Wave Masters 2009 can participate in preliminaries of the same class, but cannot advance to the finals.

OFF Class

These are the rules only for OFF Class:[12]

  • Only for 1st grade Elementary to 3rd grade Junior High students.
  • Forbidden to use Mega Man boosted using the advanced cards, Noise Mod Gear, and the advanced book, Secret Satellite Server. In the unlikely event it is discovered that they are used in the tournament, there will be disqualification after one ticket is handed to the opponent.
  • As an exception, White Cards are allowed.
  • Players who once won other tournaments in Wave Masters 2009 can participate in preliminaries of the same class, but cannot advance to the finals.

Survival Match

These are the rules only for Survival Match:[13]

  • No age limit.
  • Mega Man boosted with the advanced cards, Noise Mod Gear, is allowed.
  • Allowed Noise Mod Gear includes all types from the first set, Progress Stage, and the second set, Diabolos Stage. Noise Mod Gear distributed and posted at events and strategy guides are also allowed.
  • MegaMan boosted with the advanced book, Secret Satellite Server, is allowed.

Joint Rules

These are rules that apply for all Classes:

  • During entry, select "10 Turns" on the number of turns screen before starting the battle.
  • All Battle Cards are allowed, including distribution card AcidArrest and CrimsonMeteor.
  • Please do battles with "Practice, 1 Round".
  • Players will use their own DS (only Nintendo DS and Nintendo DS Lite can enter, DSi cannot enter).
  • Before the battle, turn off the DS' power and follow the judge's instructions. Make sure the communication cable is firmly set into the Advance slot, then turn on the power.
  • When the battle is over, make sure to save, turn off the power switch, unplug the communication cable, and prepare to move.
  • Forbidden to pause, soft reset, or turning off the power before the Result screen is displayed for the match.
  • Make sure to place the designated Regular Battle Card at the top of the folder that will be used in the tournament. Also, if Gemini Noise is on, make sure to place the Tagged Battle Cards in the second and third folder slots.
  • If there is a Battle Card obtained through illegal data modification, there will be a complete disqualification even if they are not used.
  • Only Noise Change is allowed for the start of battle transformation. Finalization from the start is forbidden and will result in a disqualification if detected.
  • If there is a chip obtained through illegal data modification, there will be a complete disqualification even if they are not used.

Format

Wavemasters 2008

  • Battles will held within a time limit of 30 minutes.
  • If you win, a stamp will be made on the "win" column of the board.
  • If you lose, a stamp will be made on the "lose" column of the board.
  • When the battle is over, leave the screen as is and follow the judge's instructions.

The finals will be a 3 round match.

Wavemasters 2009

  • Battles will held within a time limit of 30 minutes.
  • If you win, you get one Crimson Ticket from your opponent that was received on entry.
  • Battles can be done as many times as you want until you run out of Crimson stickers.
  • When your Crimson Tickets is 0, you will be ejected from the qualifying area.
  • The people who have the most "Crimson Tickets" can advance to the finals of the tournament.

The finals will be a 3 round match.

Survival Match

  • Tournament matches will be held in one practice.
  • There is no repechage match.
  • Finals will be held on stage (3 round match).

Trivia

  • MMSF2 and MMSF3 have special crowns that will appear in the players' in-game profile that are distributed by joining a tournament. Blue for participating, Silver for runner-up, and Gold for the champion.
  • Earlier tournaments banned some customization options to content that had yet to be officially distributed. For example, MMSF3 banned certain Noise Mod Gear promos, as well as Ability Waves and Mega Weapons that required Cipher Codes[14].
  • The tournament battles utilize a communication cable rather than use the DS’s native wireless connection. This can be seen in Wavemasters footage where the connection bar is at zero bars, but they are still connected.
