Mega Man Battle Network 3 is the first game to come in 2 versions and the final Japanese game to don the Battle Network subtitle. The game saw the first time outside merchandise influence the series gameplay through the use of the anime and card game for the Compression and Mod Codes.
Japanese release of the games contained a Rockman EXE Cardass card of Ground Style or Shadow Style depending on the version purchased.
Battle Network Rockman EXE 3 Black saw a pre-release at the 2003 World Hobby Fair. This special version contains the Punk P and Forte GS X BattleChip pre-obtained in the game and a holographic version of the Shadow Style card.
