MMBN-inspired indie game Net King’s Call is now on Kickstarter

If you were a big fan of Battle Network 5’s Liberation Missions, MMBN-inspired indie game Net King’s Call might be right up your alley. Developers Greystone Games have just launched a Kickstarter campaign for their game, which is slated for an Early Access release in Fall 2020 on Windows PC, Mac and Linux.

Net King’s Call takes the concept of MMBN5’s Liberation Missions and runs with it. Outside of battle, gameplay takes on a form more similar to tactical RPGs like Advance Wars, where you move around your squads on a grid map full of enemies, hazards and buildings.

Once you engage an enemy squad, gameplay shifts to a grid-based battle system that MMBN veterans should feel right at home with. In battle, you take control of one unit, while giving commands to two other AI-controlled ones. Your goal is to inflict as much damage as possible within a time limit of 30 seconds, as this determines how much damage will be dealt on the overworld map.

Currently, the Net King’s Call Kickstarter is sitting at just over a third of its $15,000 goal. With that said, there are plenty of stretch goals including a map editor, Nintendo Switch port and multiplayer modes.

If you’d like to take the game for a spin first, there’s also a free demo available on the Net King’s Call Itch.io page. Alternatively, check out an hour-long deep dive into the game from the recent TeamBN Summer Showcase 2020!
