In celebration of Mega Man’s 25th Anniversary, Capcom has announced Rockman Xover (Crossover), a “Social RPG” featuring Mega Men from all the different Mega Man series. Naturally, this means MegaMan.EXE from Battle Network, and Mega Man SF from Star Force are featured!
Dr. Wily, Sigma and the other villains have teamed up to imprison all the Mega Men in a gap in time-space. In response, Dr. Light and Dr. Cossack work together to build a brand new robot to put a stop to the bad guys. As a run-of-the-mill production model turned super fighting robot, it’s up to the player to build up their very own Mega Man using “Battle Memory” that has been scattered across the world, together with your friends.
As the game’s concept revolves around being a crossover of various Mega Man series, we will probably see some characters and elements from Battle Network and Star Force as well. It is currently unknown how the game will play, but based on the screens it appears to be quite a change from classic Mega Man platformers.
The game is optimized for iPhone 3GS/4/4GS and iPod Touch starting from generation 3. It will also run on iPads, but the graphics may be scaled. It will be released through the Apple App Store in Japan somewhere in Autumn 2012; it is currently unknown whether the game will be translated into English.
UPDATE: Capcom has confirmed to The Mega Man Network that Rockman Xover will be released in North America and Europe.
